Al Gore and Hillary Clinton have three things in common. They both ran for POTUS. They both won the popular vote. They both had issues surrounding voter hacking. We don't know just yet what the future holds for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Al Gore on the other hand, retired from politics very much like an alcoholic who desperately tries to stay sober.
So, instead of fighting Washington pundents, Gore turned his attention to global warming and the climate crisis affecting us on earth. His fight paid off in Hollywood when he took home the Oscar and Nobel Peace Prize for his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth". Not bad for a former Vice-President!!!
Ten years later, the climate crisis has not improved. Many cities and states are experiencing tsunami type flooding. In some cases completely wiping out whole towns.
Al Gore has been instrumental in keeping the conversation front and center, but like any issue that reaps the benefits of government assistance, he has been met with resistance and criticism from likely and unlikely sources. His biggest critic? The 45th President of the United States - Donald J. Trump. Trump has gleefully boasted that global warming is a hoax and at one point demanded that Gore's Nobel Peace Prize be taken away.
Needless to say, it was befitting that the sequel to this powerful documentary premiered the night before Trump's Inaugaration. Produced by Participant Media, this sequel "An Inconvenient Truth - Truth to Power" picks up where Gore left off years ago.
At a Q&A afterwards, Gore likened the climate crisis to any other movement that has been fought throughout the course of history. Not unlike the Civil Rights, Women's Sufferage movements or fighting rights for LGBT and Apartheid.
When asked about Trump and their recent meeting, Gore stated, "Just as I never devulged the details of conversations I had with President Clinton, I will not discuss the details of that meeting as they are private". However, he is hopeful that the their conversation on global warming will continue.
Having been in the White House, former Vice-President Gore is in a small select group of people that understands how difficult navigating around political agendas. "Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face"
Global warming and a climate crisis is real! If we don't make care of our planet we will not have one to inhabit.
This conversation, more than any other right now, needs to stay in the forefront of the new administration's radar. I will be interesting to see where our planet is ten years from now.
An Inconvenient Sequel was an eye opening look at how humans due to greed, insensitivity and sheer ignorance are destroying the very planet we love. Wake up people before it's too late. check out this riveting doc when it hits theaters on July 28, 2017.
